We’ve all heard the laundry list of “basics” that every well dressed woman should have in her wardrobe – a basic black pump, a classic trench coat, a pair of black trousers, etc. Once you have the basics covered, it’s time to shake up your wardrobe by adding more interesting pieces with character that really show case your own personal style. I like to refer to them as the not so basic basics – they still have elements of the traditional basics, but with a twist. What do I mean by not so basic basics? A trench coat with leather sleeves, a classic pump with texture, a printed trouser, a bold patterned sheath dress, a pencil skirt with interesting details, etc. They still have enough of those traditional elements to be worn day in and out, but stand out enough to add interest to your wardrobe. What do you think of not so basic basics?
